For the New Owner
Do remember that if your dog is not impressed by your authority then he will make decisions for himself.
Do assert yourself enough to gain respect but remember that your dog does not want bullying.
Don't use rolled up newspapers to chastise. This will result in hand-shyness. Instead ignore him for a short period, turn your back on him, walk out of the room - he will quickly get the message you are not happy with him.
Crate train him as soon as you get him by putting him in his create and giving him a toy and a few biscuits in the crate. gradually increase the time he spends in the crate on his own until his sleeps in the create all night and goes into the create quite happily during the day when you want to go out or just for quiet time- this will reduce the damage caused by a dog chewing up things through boredom.
